Hill and Ditch

8th March 2009

The site opened at 10am and we arrived at about 9.30 to find about 6 vehicles, after paying our £30 plus £5 for an extra passenger we were given an overview of the site by one of the organisers which was very useful as we found were the deep water was and so avoided it. The quarry is a sandstone quarry with no real mud, there was a small wooded area and plenty of water it is the smallest site I have been too but in saying that the only pay and plays I have been too have been Shottle and Stourport. Around the back of the quarry to the left(by the railway line) was the more difficult area and on the right was the sandstone rock climb which was well worth the visit. There was also a good long slope to climb at the back of the site which was well rutted and if you made it to the top you had to make a U turn but you really need a winch to get over the last bit so as you can guess I never made it. I did circum to the water about halfway through the day and ended up overcooking it and water poured into the air vent at the front so we had a very steamy interior for a while. Towards the middle of the day the site got very crowded with a lot of trucks arriving on flatbeds. There was hot drinks available on site (along with pot noodles) and at lunchtime there was a BBQ. I also got to drive a 90 TD5 for the first time and had a great deal of difficultly keeping my foot off the clutch but it still was fun. All in all a good day.

Cheers
